PE Coated Paper is basically a composite material made by coating paper with plastic pellets through a casting process. Its main features are oil resistance, water resistance (to some extent), and heat-sealability. In this article, we’ll go over the common uses of PE coated paper so you can get a better idea of where it’s applied.

Different uses make use of its different properties:

  • For burger wrappers, it’s all about the oil resistance. (Fun fact: McDonald’s uses PE coated paper that can hold up against 80°C vegetable oil for 10 minutes without leaking!)
  • For coated art paper packaging, the focus is its water resistance.
  • For automatic packaging machines, it’s valued for its heat-sealability.

Main application areas:

  1. Chemicals: desiccant packs, mothballs, laundry detergent, preservatives.
  2. Food packaging.
  3. Wood products: tongue depressors, ice cream spoons, toothpicks, cotton swabs.
  4. Paper products: coated art paper, lightweight coated paper, copy paper (acid-free).
  5. Everyday items: wet wipe sachets, salt packaging, paper cup stock.
  6. Pharma & medical: medical device packaging, traditional Chinese medicine, pesticides, veterinary drugs.
  7. Others.
